Sacred Sites Run Project Endorsements
Endorsement of this project extends to Muscogean-speaking and non Native communities near Miami, Florida. They will relay a run along the southeastern coast line up to Ocmulgee Mounds near Macon, Georgia. The annual "Sacred Run" from San Francisco, California is expected to bring symbolic sacred site's soil representation from various places, then hand deliver to Sacred Sites Runners in Choctaw, Mississippi. In the Northern region the Ho-Chunk runners, Native Cruzers, have committed to run from Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa. The Menominee Runners plan to start from the Effigy Mounds near Keshena, Wisconsin. The Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwe have indicated support by running from Waters Meet, Michigan into Wisconsin to meet other groups participating. Other Native Nations or bands have expressed an interest in participating in this event.

The Sacred Sites Run starts March 20, 2006 from Pinson Mounds near Jackson, Tennessee; to sites in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. The run will re-enter Tennessee, to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. All supporting groups are scheduled to meet at Lake Park Mound in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Education Day of the Indian Summer Festival September 8, 2006. Modern-day Milwaukee is built upon an estimated 217 mounds and effigies and other sacred sites. Through the efforts of Wisconsin Archeological Society, only one has been saved from destruction. The symbolism of transporting a handful of soil from near sacred sites across the United States is a representation of the ancient process of mound building. The soil will be placed near the Lake Park Mound in Milwaukee in a dedication ceremony. The Milwaukee Indian Summer Festival will serve as a place to celebrate with Indigenous Nations in the final days of the run.
